Whitley Students Praised in Public Speaking Competition

Whitley Academy participated in an English Speaking Union competition on Wednesday, 21st January 2015 at Solihull School. The ESU is a national platform for public speaking for young people, and this was Whitley’s first time in the competition.
Year 10 students Catherine Bellamy, Charlotte Gater and Daniel Gummadi competed against students from the host school, Solihull, Warwick School, and King Edward the Sixth School.
Speaking on the topic of “The Olympic Dream is Dead”, the students were praised by competition organisers for their competence, articulate speech and overall very thoughtful performance. Featured speaker Daniel based his speech on the Olympic motto of “Faster –Higher -Stronger” over time.

Trip organiser Mrs. Minh Nguyen explained that:
“Even though we did not win, I was so very proud of how the students handled themselves in the face of such top-level competition … We at Whitley are excited to be involved in such a  prestigious event and have already begun preparing for the next one!”
